I could not believe my luck when a local talented engineer called up offering to sell his Fantic Cabellero.
Back in the 80's whilst hanging out on my Yamaha FS1E, we often discussed top speeds and performance comparing the 4speed Yamaha FS1E with the 5 speed Suzuki AP50. But we knew that neither bike could compete with the performance of Fantic Caballero, which with its 6 Speed box was known to hit 50mph without modification. We all wanted a Fantic, it had had the Street bike look reminiscent of the Evel Knievel stunt bike and were in awe of how cool the very few lucky owners who had Fantics were. They were usually older than the Japanese bikes and were often battered due to their trail bike style, that is how it was in those days, but they were damn expensive if you could ever find a good one. If only I had wealthy parents.
This early, first off line example absolutely blew us away and I am about to explain why.
It is possibly the best example of a restoration we have ever seen and that includes some of our cars. Everything on this bike is as new and the guy who built it says it is a million times better today than how it would have been from the factory. He is a pro at bike building.
Following Importation by the previous owner in 2018 he then set about ordering huge amounts of parts from Italy and the UK for which he retained many invoices and order confirmations. His labour hours were huge having spent time before and during lockdown to complete this 'one off' unique project.
This is the perfect bike for the enthusiast or collector but can also be ridden and enjoyed. The owner rode this bike to us from his distant home and this was his confidence in his work.
