Without doubt this Ferrari Mondial “t” cabriolet has the most concise, complete and detailed service history we have yet encountered, and the condition of this car clearly reflects the care and attention that has be lavished upon it since new.
Launched for the 1989 model year and built in very limited numbers, only 51 right hand drive Mondial t cabriolets were ever produced. This staggeringly low build number immediately secured the cars status as a future classic.
The Mondial “t” was a substantial upgrade from the original Mondial, with the newly designed 3.4-litre V8 aligned longitudinally in the chassis to make a T-shape with the transmission which was mounted transversely. This change allowed the engine to be mounted far lower in the chassis dramatically improving both the handling and performance of this four-seater supercar.
The new engine increased power to 296bhp and torque to 238lb.ft and both fuel injection and ignition were handled by a Motronic engine management system allowing for smoother running a better reliability. Contemporary road tests recorded a 0- 60mph time of just 6.3 seconds whilst the top speed was 158mph.
Visually the Mondial T was quite different from the earlier models with body-coloured bumpers, more fulsome wings to accommodate the wider track, and considerably smaller air intakes in front of the rear wheel arches.
This particular Mondial T was ordered new in 1989 by Ferrari agents Evans Halwshaw and the car was completed and invoiced by the factory on the 13th February 1990 and duly delivered to its first owner at a cost of £63592 including the optional leather covered dashboard.
Finished in the classic combination of Rosso corsa with crema hide and rosso carpets, this car has covered 57,900 miles from new and has been maintained by the best in the business including Maranello, Foskers and Rardley Motors.
