Ford Escort RS 1600i
A recently rebuilt RS 1600i that has been featured in a 5-page spread in Classic Ford magazine.
Incredibly this car survived the thefts that were rife back in the 80’s and has a clean var history report. That said, when the previous owner bought the car following many years of SORN, it did require substantial rebuilding but it as an honest survivor it was worth doing. Thousands of pounds later and some serious commitment to buying on eBay and parts websites, this is now a very cool looking modern Ford RS classic.
The car appears to have its original engine and the original twin coils, and solid tappets are a delight to remain. The magazine article states that the engine had a complete strip down and rebore along with reground crankshaft and unleaded valve seats as well as a changed gearbox with 5 speed and the LSD from a later RS Turbo.
As is typical with old Ford cars, there is very little mechanical service information. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, nobody would ever have thought these cars would become so desirable today, and this is why little care was taken over the preservation of paperwork and service books. That said, we have a huge file of the old MOTs from 1990 and incredibly successive MOTs appear to support this cars mileage at 82,258 as being correct. Had the service book been available this cars value would be significantly higher. We think it is correct mileage, and you may wish to make your own additional checks.
The most recent service in Aug 2022 included the all-important timing belt and water pump being replaced.
This example presents very well and with an exceptional clean interior and shiny popular Diamond white paintwork.
It will go through the workshop prior to sale and have a thorough inspection throughout. It will also have an oil and filter service and be offered including a free 3-month mechanical national warranty with Autoguard, which can be extended at a sensible cost.
