Let us not kid anyone – Lotus cars can be a labour of love. But that said, the last of the Giorgetto Giugiaro styled Lotus', the Esprit S3 was a huge step forward on previous models, and considerably easier and cheaper to live with than the erratic Turbo variants.
Owned by our lady customer for the past 8 years this car has been sympathetically maintained. In fact, it’s very apparent that whenever something needed fixing, this car has gone into Lotus specialists to have the works carried out. There are plenty of older invoices from back in the day, now superseded by the works and servicing carried out more recent by marque specialists. In August this year, this car had a service and cambelt replaced and the same in 2024. Year prior was a full service, which included clutch and brake works, steering and suspension. We were informed by the owner that the standard engine was upgraded to the improved HC engine, and we are aware this car has covered little mileage since, but still sympathetically maintained. Comforting to note that in recent years, the owner did continue to have the car MOT’d, which ensures it has been kept on it's toes. Too often it's the case that they are confined to the barn where mechanical items perish.
This car is not concours, but if 10 typical Esprit’s were lined up, we feel this one will likely be in your top 2 or 3. It’s been painted in the past, they all have, and the paint is generally good, with no obvious cracking to be observed. There are lacquer blisters to the roof, the top window frame and a few touched-in chips, but the rest of the paintwork is in great order. Fairmont can paint the roof at cost of £400. The interior is another area that sets this car apart. It is in excellent order having been retrimmed by Fulchers.
It’s a particularly cool, not overstated, Bond like Lotus that is ready to be enjoyed and a favourite of our staff here. Whole life ownership cost is guaranteed to be minimal, considering the asking price, and it’s our view that come the day we become fully electrified, this car's value will soar.
