2022 Electric Porsche 911 SC ‘RSR Homage’
Fairmont Sports and Classics are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this rather special ‘classic’ to market - a beautifully restored and now fully electric powered 1982 Porsche 911 SC ‘RSR Homage’.
Delightfully restored and reimagined by Design911, their mission was simple; to future proof this iconic 911 and to complete it to the highest of standards. In this exciting new venture, Design911 they have achieved something incredible that very few have been able to replicate.
Originally manufactured in 1982, this 911 SC LHD Coupe from the USA was the subject of a high-end bare metal restoration and has been professionally converted to an all-electric powertrain. Upon completion in 2022, it was re-registered with the DVLA as an Electric Vehicle (EV).
Finished in a stunning fresh coat of Porsche’s famous Viper Green, everything looks and feels new and by all intents and purposes it is a brand-new car. Complete with a genuine turbo wide body kit, ducktail spoiler, lightweight Fuchs alloys, Design911 bespoke graphics, 993-era wing mirrors, rally toggle bonnet latches and larger Pirelli tyres at the rear – it is an energizing take on the classic 911 RSR design.
Inside the cabin it has a modern, refreshing appearance but hasn’t lost its 911 identity. A set of diamond-cut half leather half alcantara buckets seats are matched perfectly with the alcantara Momo race steering wheel. There are a few chrome additions here and there too and these are complimented by further alcantara on the door cards, dash and headlining. In addition, there are bespoke digital dials fitted and retro Porsche Classic Communication Management system offering DAB radio and Apple Carplay.
In terms of the electronic running gear, this was recommended and then installed by Eco Classics. A 420v Lithium-ion battery split in 2 packs powers a water-cooled Nio motor. It produces 240kW up to 15000rpm, which for the usual classic car enthusiast translates to 320bhp. This is quite the increase from the original air-cooled engine it had in its previous life, at circa 180bhp. As a result, this 911 achieves the 0-60 in just 3.8 seconds and will keep going to 130mph.
On top of the impressive performance stats, it takes 9 hours to fully charge and it boasts a respectable range of 200 miles even when driving more exuberantly.
Further structural and mechanical improvements were required to compensate for the additional performance and torque. The suspension was totally overhauled and upgraded to adjustable road race spec K-W Shocks, whilst brakes were upgraded with a big red conversion kit fitted at the front – in addition to various other fine-tunes.
All in all, this unique electric 911 has been a few years in the making. Anything and everything has been meticulously thought about, replaced and improved upon to create the perfect electric classic. It is ready to be enjoyed in the countryside or city centres alike, without the hefty road tax, congestion charges or dare I say it the unreliability of owning a true classic.
