Following on from the hugely successful MK1 Impreza – the MK2 (GDB) came up against some hugely critical press only because of the headlights. Now, affectionately known as the Bugeye, this WRC Championship winning car in reality is a far more sophisticated driving car than the vehicle it replaced. The critics were unfair and for a period of time stalled consumer’s decision making on this model. Therefore, 20 years on this is not only one of Subaru’s most successful rally cars it is also one of the rarest available as it was quickly updated with new headlights.
Also, unlike its predecessor, a two-door version of this car never appeared and with this being the WRX STI Type RA Spec C, this is arguably the best and rarest model.
This 2002 example was imported from Japan when new. We discovered it from a rally enthusiast who swapped an Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution for this car with the intention of converting it to a competitive rally car. On driving home he realised it was far too special to modify for rallying and decided to mothball the car for the last 18 years. He only brought it out for MOTs and for very occasional use.
It has covered just 11,000 miles, in every single area it is like a new car. The interior, paintwork, bodywork, engine bay and underneath are all completely faultless.
In addition, the car is supplied with a D-cat exhaust which when fitted would give this particular example circa 400bhp. It has recently had a new cambelt replaced, water pump tensioner, idler’s battery and prior to delivery it will receive a full oil service and is MOT’d until February 2022.
This really is a special opportunity for a Subaru enthusiast or collector and as a special edition it is certain to appreciate for years to come.
