Fairmont are pleased to offer this rare Version 5 Limited model, the most iconic generation of the Impreza WRX STi - The Type R Version 5 Limited.
Forget the soft P1, the WRX STi Type R is the daddy of mainstream Impreza cars. Only the 22B could be considered more desirable, but then you will need to raise an additional £150,000 to own one! Before you do that, consider the 22B has flared arches fitted, but otherwise is much the same as our car.
This Type R Limited is presented in favourable Sonic Blue Mica, still wearing the original gold wheels and the Limited model featuring a more aggressive body kit. Inside are the STi sports seats, and fitted with the very cool rally hatch delivering that true life rally experience with cool air to the cabin, when hurtling down the rally stages.
This car has the lowest mileage of any Type R we have seen, at only 32,000. This car had a different exhaust and suspension when it arrived, but the owner provided the original items which were as new. We have refitted this standard equipment which we believe has improved the car and added value. It is now standard, delivering standard power and has an interior that is near perfect – even the drivers seat bolster and fabric and glass like paintwork, with no obvious signs of having been painted. The steering wheel is the beautiful three spoke leather STi Nardi option, but if required we will replace with the 4-spoke original air-bag steering wheel. In all areas, it presents just how you'd want it to. Clearly it was looked after in Japan with the original service book showing 11 service stamps from new, with the last entry recorded at 51,000kms (32,000 miles).
This vehicle will be supplied with excellent service history, original manuals, all correct import/export documentation. Only 1,000 of these Type R Limited models were produced, of which many went into competitive rallying and will have disappeared, so it’s unknown just how many remain today. In what is becoming a fast-paced market, there is huge demand for the Type R Impreza in Japan, USA and the rest of the world. There is no demand in the rest of the world for the P1 as they don’t recognise it.
Fairmont Sports and Classics will supply this vehicle with an MOT, a major oil and filter service, water pump, cambelt and upgraded pulleys from RCM. We invite any inspection, and buyers are welcome to view the underside of the vehicle to appreciate just how good it is. Included is a 6-month national warranty, provided by Autoguard.
