1987 Toyota MR2 Supercharged with 66,000 miles and 1 UK owner.
This is, hands down, the most fun car in our showroom today.
We were already big fans of the MR2 here at Fairmont, especially MK1s and MK2s. Loved for their 80s looks, precise handling and agility they are so much fun. Many people say they had the perfect amount of power and performance for their size and shape. We agreed with this too until we finally drove this - the factory built Supercharged edition. And it has blown us all away.
The MR2 Supercharged never made it to our shores or Europe for that matter, it was available in Japan in 1986 and then in North America in 1988.
It produces a 145 bhp, which doesn’t sound like a lot nowadays but in the 80s it was. Though only 21bhp more than the standard car, it equated to a 17% increase, and with a blip of the throttle you can really feel it instantly. The 0 to 62 miles per hour time of just 6.5 seconds is very impressive, amazingly that matches the hottest hatches some 30 years later – Fiesta STs, Polo GTIs and many generations of the Golf GTI. It’s on par and very quick indeed.
This 1987 supercharged Toyota MR2 was recently imported from Japan, registered in February 2023 and has just the one registered keeper in the UK. You can see it has benefitted from the warmer climates of Japan, as it presents in very good condition throughout. A few upgrades include aftermarket alloy wheels and front bumper which look cool in our eyes. We’ve also sourced an original steering wheel and door cards.
The odometer reads 106,000kms (which is 66,000 miles) and it has an advisory free MOT which is valid until January 2025. We can of course renew to a full 12 months. Its last service was in January 2024.
Paperwork with the Toyota includes the V5C, UK MOT certificates, some invoices, the book pack with owner's manual, alarm system instructions and service books, with one showing three UK service entries since arriving in the country.
